New Mulch New Mush

These mushrooms appear to be Japanese umbrella mushrooms (Coprinellus disseminatus), which often grow in dense clusters on rotting wood or mulch.They are known for their short lifespan, frequently appearing overnight and decaying within a few hours.

While they may seem alarming, they are a sign of healthy soil, as they help break down organic matter and turn it into nutrients for other plants.

Growing mushrooms, never the intention. This is a part of a healthy mulching around my oak trees. It's my first time using mulch around trees, and it's not something I've ever done with my parents in the past. It's fun now I can share my mulching experiences with my kids, and research shows mulching can increase the amount your tree is able to grow. And I live on a hill, so heavy rain often has a way of moving the dirt. Mulch is now helping me maintain dirt, which is the essential nutrients needed for life to grow. Now, my front yard is booming, and it all started with simple addition of some rocks around the front of my trees, which I noticed helped maintain some eroding dirt in the front. Later, I had to do more rocks to keep the soil from simply flowing out. Now, with that layer, adding mulch over has been beneficial because using rocks to landscape still gives access to water going down to the trees, VS it being a slick area that just flows off my yard. thats enough about my mulchy/rock yard.
